The aftermath of a tough negotiation

Have you ever been in some really tough negotiations or conflict resolution meetings?

I just don’t mean an occurrence where you were banging heads on the final cost for a deal but the kind where the topic of the negotiation or conflict resolution hits home on a more personal level. Maybe the temperament, despite all efforts, have been running a bit high also.

A good tip for these instances is actually to do a debrief with your teammates after you are done. You might think this is only for people working in other areas such as hospital workers, police or rescue personnel but it actually serves a good purpose after tough negotiations as well. It gives you and the rest of your team a chance to go through the events and analyse what was said and done.

A simple yet effective way of doing this is by using the STOP method as described in the picture. It provides a simple and structured way of going through the chain of events and participants gets a chance to share and discuss occurrences they found hard to deal with. Participation shall of course be completely voluntary.
